I got my first Optacon in 1982 belonging to my job. I used to
take it home at week-ends, or on week days if my wife told me
that there was some print mail at home.
One Friday evening in 1987, I went for a drink with friends, and
accidentally left the Optacon under my seat in the pub.
Needless to say, I had a worried night, but when I was able to
get in touch with the pub, they had found the bag and I went into
town to retrieve it. Because of this incident I decided to buy
myself an Optacon II, which was just coming out, and I was able
to keep this at home.
A couple of years ago, a lady told me that she had decided to
stop using the Optacon, and she sold me her two R 1 D machines,
and I was able to name my own price. This means that I now have
four Optacons, and I use them all occasionally, but the very
first machine I had is still the one I use daily. I should
imagine that I will have access to an Optacon for the rest of my
life.
