You're right about the Optacon. There are just some things which can't be read with any other technology. That's why we have two Optacons in our house. While my Optacon was on reparation and when it didn't work before that, I really missed this opportunity. Like before, no scanning and text processing facility is able to replace the Optacon, not even any iPhone app. Now I am also able to use these but haven't installed such an app just for the reason mentioned in the previous sentence. But of course, if I had to be without my Optacon and my scanning facility for a longer time, I would have to think about some iPhone app just for reading printed text, but only assuming that I would neither have access to my scanning + OCR facility nor to the Optacon during that time. But everything is possible in life even though being without both of these at the same time seems quite assumable but is still possible; everything can happen in the real life! This post also gives me an "excuse" to test if this list still works, but why shouldn't it? A quiet list doesn't mean a dead one, and there are also other things in life than mailing lists, aren't there?
