My family and I have been using Skype for the past year. All you need is the
download which is free, and a good microphone and speakers, preferably a
combination earphone and mic. and a high speed line. The sound is quite good
although there can be a delay when the other party speaks. The charge is for
calling to a landline which until this January is free. There are two
versions, one for Mac OS X... and one for Windows.

Just curious, a young friend just returned from several weeks touring
the Far East on limited funds. She told me she kept in touch with family and
friends through a website called skype - www.skype.com
It's one of those things - at least to me - that looks too good to be
true. I'm just wondering if anyone knows anything about it. It does have, by
the way, a Mac download. She said she used it for free. Site says it's free
or you can use it for a year for $14.95. Anyone ever heard of this? jim
