Hi All,
I stayed home this morning and birded the backyard. The first migrant that got
my attention was a beautiful male Green-tailed Towhee that flew in over my head
to the pond. I was able to take pictures as he got a drink and a bath. Next
was a Hermit Thrush at the same spot at the pond. Pictures are posted on
eBird, sorry I am not able to post pictures to the listserver.
In a nearby tree I then had a female Wilson’s Warbler. In the pecan tree a
Bronzed Cowbird showed briefly, I believe this is new to my yard list. When I
mentioned that to my wife, Mary, she just rolled her eyes!
The male Black-chinned Hummingbird has still staked out my yard as his
territory, and he was involved in a chase with another hummer. Chimney Swifts,
Mississippi Kites, and Western Kingbirds were flying overhead. Overall, I saw
20 species this morning, most were the usual suspects I see all year.
I went to Clapp Park yesterday evening at 7:30. The hordes of Chipping
Sparrows had disappeared along with the buntings. I did see about a dozen
Chippies. The only first of season bird I saw was a Common Nighthawk soaring
overhead. Also, I could not find any warblers.
Happy Birding,
