I frequently drive down Milwaukee between Marsha Sharp and 82nd and have
only seen a Burrowing Owl among the prairie dogs once, until this past
weekend. The prairie dogs and Burrowing Owls have expanded into the edge
of
McAlister Park that runs along Milwaukee. We counted 2 in the park and 3
across the road. The owls in McAlister Park are right up against the park
road that leads to the baseball field and using the car as a blind we were
able to view them from a couple of yards away. I have attached a picture
because Burrowing Owls make me smile :) I am sure that hundreds of people
will visit the baseball field and most of them may never notice the super
cool owls only a few yards away! We also noticed that the prairie dogs had
expanded to the edge of the baseball field, which raises concerns about
city "management" of the colony.
