- For the record, in the 50 foot swath you have to cross La Barque Creek, I guess the deepest water you had to cross was about 8 inches. It had also just rained. So you might be able to cross it. You might also be able to get some rocks to help. It was just barely too deep to cross in that cold of weather. (And looking at the cliff/hill across the creek did not encourage me to try to find a way to get across.) Once you cross the creek, you have to go up about 250 feet in 1/10th of a mile. But the ridge top is not in the boundary so once you climb up you then have to go along a steep slope until you can get to a place to climb down into the valley. Also remember you have to come back the same way. So this does NOT sound like a way to take a big group-particularly without someone scouting the way. If you look at the map, it looks like you should be able to follow La Barque Creek until the first valley and head up it. But the signs say you cannot go that way. I emailed MDC and asked them about it. So unless someone can get better information on how to get in there, I would recommend going at it from the old way. It might also make sense to meet in some park and ride lot and car pool from there. Jack, I agree, now I'm confused also. I took the time Saturday to drive out and look at the parking lot. My thought was that if there's a parking lot, there was access to to the area that the parking lot was made for. I guess it was bad to "assume" anything there. The original parking lot on the cache pages can only accomodate two or three cars so that is not a good meeting place and we'd still have to meet somewhere else anyway. Right now my thoughts are to ask for volunteers with high-capacitity vehicles (vans and pickups) to shuttle us up to the original access area if we are unable to cross at the river. When I looked at the river on Saturday, it wasn't high and maybe it won't be high next Tuesday but I won't bet on it. I'll try to get this figured out before I send out the email blast later this week. OK. After reading Jim and Barry's emails I am now totally confused. I want to go and do the caches but I am not sure where we should go, and if we go there how do we get in. Do we use the old parking and follow the old coordinates or do we use the new parking and bring a boat and some climbing equipment? Or do we use the new parking to meet at and then car pool over to the old parking and then use the old coordinates? Decisions, decisions, what should we do? It's as clear as muddy snow!!!
