Could be....could be.

But it could also be the guy on Aximsite doesn't have a clue.

I mean, if he thinks using CF cards in a digital camera (one of their first
significant uses) is 'basically general storage', then I do have to question
his knowledge. The ability to write data to the card *quickly* for that
purpose is very important. Ya just can't take another pic until the last one
is written to the card (or at least such was the case 'back in the
day'....these days, most if not all digicams have a buffer that allows at
least some data to be stored until it's written to the card).

Ask yourself.....

How many I/O devices do you see in SD format? Things like GPS cards, modems,
etc. How many digital cameras come with SD slots? Not many. There are a
*few*, but at this point few and far between. By contrast, there are a quite
of few of these type devices available in SD format.

But go back and read the response I quoted. The truly operative phrase in
that was that all ppc's only support 1-bit speeds anyway. If that's true,
then the speed of the card is almost irrelevant, no?

It sounds to me like you just got unlucky with your first CF card. If you
bounce around the 'Net enough, you'll run across all sorts of reports of
some brands of either format working better with some brands of pda's (or
digital cameras) than others, some brands of either format just seem to have
a higher failure rate in general...yada yada Yoda.
