Actually, having a bunch of people wandering around the area helps. The deer never leave an area, they are territorial, and at the most, on hunting day, a hunter has a better chance if the deer are on the move. And if enough people move through an area often, the deer aren't really bothered by the scent. The deer I've seen on Howell Island are not very freaked by a few people wandering around. They see them all the time.
