Welcome! You will have a blast. My suggestions about GPS devices is to
consider the Garmin Etrex series. Specifically a model that is HCx for hi
sensitivity, color screen and allows for a memory card. A hi sensitivity chip
is a must and will help you under heavy cover. You also will want a GPS that
will allow for download of maps and waypoints. Most Etrexes will do that.
