Hi Ann an dall touch users,
Greg Stilson is now working on improving all keysoft apps in version 4.0,
hopefully released in summer 2017.
People must understand that keysoft is overlaid on to android so they can
not bring over features from the apex, because that was written for MS CE
6.
They have had 3 major android upgrades and now they will be improving the
keysoft apps next.
Greg is very aware of the need for the keysoft apps to be brought up to the
level or better than what was in the apex, including the poor functions of
the bookshare app and bard app, since the touch has the victor stream app
and it does work far better, once HumanWare improves those two apps and
brings the NLS key to the touch, so the victor app will do what we want.
Also what is provided in android is not as full or richh as what we found in
the Apex, so they have to write the features in to the keysoft apps on the
touch, in some cases the feature we want like highlighting and copy an
dpaste from the KeyWeb is not in android except using finger swipes, so
HumanWare must convert that to keyboard commands in to the KeyWeb app.
So be patient, remember the Apex didn't have many features for years after
it was released, look how long it took before Apex could access word docx
files!
So please understand the Android operating system is totally different then
what the Apex ran on!

Morning all,
Some folks have sent in a list of improvements they'd like to see on the
Touch. Here are mine.
I'd like to see the planner improved in a couple of ways. One thing I
really, really like about the planner on the Apex is that when you set a
recurring appointment, it actually does what you ask it to do. Here's an
example. If I have an appointment that recurs on the second wednesday or
the third tuesday of a month, The Touch botches it every blessed time. It
thinks that what I want is to have the appt. come on the fifth of every
month or the tenth of every month. I get my recurring appointments on all
kinds of weird dates because The Touch can't accommodate appointments that
recur on anything but the same day of the month. This is unacceptable.
Has anyone found a good calendar program that doesn't do this? I don't
know why HW couldn't have imported *all* the features of Keyplan
correctly.

Hi all,
Roger, thanks for the input and the good information. One fortunate
thing is that if I need to do so, I can go back to my Apex and do what
I need to do there.
All this stuff does take time, and I trust that HW will do their best
to include as many features as they can.
I would like, however, to point out that having the ability to select a
repeating appointment and having it scheduled on the 1st or 3rd
Thursday of the month is somewhat critical. Many people have monthly
meetings that occur on such days. Having the ability to schedule
repeating appointments of this kind would be extremely valuable.
I notice it can schedule weekly appointments that occur each Monday, or
whatever. Guess this must be a sticky wicket for some reason.
If I have to wait till it can be done, that's OK, if I know that at
least somebody heard me and is working on it. If it's an impossible
do, I'll just have to deal. It's not a biggy, but it does make
scheduling my life a might easier. Knowing what is and isn't possible
is helpful, at least to me so that I don't ask repeatedly for
impossible things. That just frustrates developers.
Happy Mothers Day to all.

Hi,
Per your second question, only way I found to sync appointments between iPhone
and touch is to move your calendar over to google calendar (which is an easy
fix to move existing appointments over on the iPhone itself) and then add that
google email to keymail. This will sync the calendar. I did this and it works.
So far anyway. I never get alerts on my touch though, which makes me wonder if
what I did had a point. Nor can I set alerts on the touch either, only on my
phone and mac. Maybe if I use the built-in calendar app on the touch and not
keyplan. But I digress. That's how you can do it.

Subject: [BNU] BrailleNote Touch display question
Hi all,
I'm a new BrailleNote Touch user (still much more familiar with
the Apex), and I'm hoping someone here can help me with a problem
I'm currently having with my Braille display. I was using the
unit earlier today with no problem, but then it ran out of
battery power, and when I restarted it after plugging it in, the
Braille dots not in use were all slightly raised (not quite as
much as when the BrailleNote is turned off, but almost). Is
there something I can do to fix this?
Thanks!

hi,
humanware have stats, and facts, but no one knows where, as I can't
recall them asking us, the users, just what we're after. well, in some ways.

Hi Devin,
When I asked Greg privately about implementation of automatic panning, here's
what he said, and I'll comment on his reply below.
Are you saying that you want to have the display pan automatically at a certain
time interval? If so, yes this was removed intentionally. We had a huge
backlash from this feature in Apex and past BrailleNotes as people activated
it by accident and then lost their place. Or they tried it and despised the
experience because everyone reads different passages at different speeds in
braille. For example if you encounter a section of text where you are
confused by a word or spelling and the display auto pans, it becomes quite
frustrating while you are trying to figure out what you just read.
From our focus groups less than 1 percent of BrailleNote users actually used
this feature and continued to use it because they enjoyed its functionality.
This is why some displays are implementing light sensors under the display to
detect when fingers have reached the end of the display. This tech is
extremely expensive and not yet very reliable, but we are watching it closely.
I hope this helps explain the logic behind this decision.
Greg
My comment:
Since I spent several thousand dollars on a device without expecting what I
consider a prime feature to be deliberately eliminated, I'm very unhappy about
this, to say the least. This is the feature I use the most on the Apex, and it
sure beats pressing a thumb key several thousand times to get through a Braille
volume.
Maybe the real problem is that many people may not read books on Braille
devices, or don't want to spend the time tailoring the auto-read feature to
suit their tastes. Or they just don't like it, which is a valid choice for them.
But unfortunately, that choice is being made for me, too, and I never got a
vote; in fact my input was never sought. I call that the tyranny of the
majority.
The few of us who want or use the feature don't seem to matter because the
negative voices are louder.
I have this to say to people who don't find a particular feature useful: don't
use the feature. That's fine. But also try to learn how to use your device
thoroughly so that if you do accidentally enable a feature, you can turn it off.
I don't know if Humanware will be willing at any point to reconsider their
decision on this, but it may be worth dropping a note to
greg.stilson@xxxxxxxxxxxxx<mailto:greg.stilson@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> if you'd like the
feature included on the Touch.
If I had known that auto-panning was not to be included, and known it within 30
days of buying the Touch, I'd have returned my unit for a refund and bought a
device with this feature.

Subject: [BNU] Got a Braille note touch, a few questions
Hi all. I am the proud new owner of a Braille Note Touch, with 32 cells.
I have a few questions, and a problem.
First, the problem. The USB charging cable has bent on the Micro-USB
end. I'll use another cable for now, but I really wonder how that could
have happened, as I didn't di anything strenuous with it or anything,
just had it in the Touch, my pocket, or the carrying case's pouch.
Now, does anyone know of a text adventure app like the "games" program
on the Apex and MPower? I'd love to play more than the Delight Games
library of game-books. Second, anyone play Dungeons and dragons? Anyone
know of a dice-roling app, or even a rule book app or site?
Third, will Humanware impliment the Space with dots 1-2-4-5-6 command,
read automatically panning with Braille, on the Touch? I miss that
command, and it is in Jaws. I'd forgotten how relaxing it is just to
read on and on, without having to pan all the time. Also, when I go to
the main menu from Victor Reader, playback stops. Any way to keep it
playing in the background?
Thanks for any answers!
