Jake, it may be best to leave implementation problems, financials,
hosting issues and the likes to Benetech staff. What we should look at is
rather the environment that such a system should offer to make it
useful/ideal for our use. I have already mentioned the Audiogon.com
system, and I would invite you and the other members of this list to
visit it and gain an idea. For example, have a look at the following
URL, which points to a dynamic list of discussion threads dealing in one
form or another with some of my favorite CD player:
http://forum.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/srch_fr.pl?x-01&zzANY
I generated the page using the Audiogon search engine, but I can also
bookmark it for future reference, or I can get to a similar page through
the "what's new page in the forums, or the forum tree.
Open any of the threads. You will find messages ordered chronologically.
Only messages containing references to X-01 are visible in full. Other
messages have the first line and the date turned into links. If you are
interested in a message press enter on it. If you wish to see all
messages beyond a particular date, click on the date.
If the message list has more than 50 messages, only the most recent 50
are shown, other chunks are visible by request.

Not necessarily. After all the email list is not run on the BookShare
servers. Additionally there are of course free message boards offered
around
the net, but the level of advertisement and time required to load can be
annoying. Of course there are also software programs for sale that run ad
free message boards. I don't think BookShare has the resources to
implement
and run such a board nor the funds to spend on such an endevor. I'd much
rather see energy go into developing the collection and the features of
the
current website.
I also would favor the email list, I'm much more likely to read posts here
verses sit around navigating a ton of links looking for just the right one
when one or so keystrokes will get me what I want in Outlook Express. It's
similar to WebMail, I just don't like them for the lack of quick
navigation.
