Marty,
If you are using Word 2007, it's under the Insert tab, then at the end of the 
row is "symbols".  I click on there and find the accented "e" on the drop-down 
list.

  I'll bet you already know my next question; how can I make an e with an 
accent mark over it?  I used to know the way to do this, but I've forgotten
