Ditto, Jim. Cassettes are bulky, tend to break, and can't be searched for quick access to information. I use a Book Port and don't want to lug around a heavy tape player if I don't have to. I'm told that the new NLS player will be close in size to a tape player, so it will be bulky too. On top of that, not all Bookshare members can qualify for NLS services. If a book is only available in audio form, I scan it so our deaf/blind friends can read it. I scan books from Audible for the same reason, though I may own the Audible book myself. In fact, I'm likely to scan a book I've already read via Audible because I know it's good and want others to be able to read that book.

Why do I scan NLS books. Several reasons. (1) Since I can now read book in digital format I have totally stopped using casette tapes. So for three years now I have not read an NLS book on tape. (2) I prefer reading books which I make into audio mp3 books using Neospeech voices than using web-braille and synthesized voice on my bookport. I also scan NLS books because I don't have the Victor ReaderStream and NLS has not come out with their player yet.
