[bksvol-discuss] Re: Trying this again about limits

I used to be one of those people who collected housefuls of books. Whenever I went into nearly any establishment that sold books I could not resist buying something. That means that by the time I became blind I had a very large personal library of print books. That was in 1988 and it is too bad that I did not anticipate Bookshare. I ended up giving them all away. Downloading electronic books is not the same though. I regard Bookshare and the other sources of electronic books I have as my personal library now, the largest personal library that I have ever had or could ever have imagined ever havving. When I am ready to read a book I download it. That is equivalent to taking it down off my shelf to read it. When I have read it I delete it. I see that as putting it back on the shelf. If I need it again I do the equivalent of taking it down from the shelf again, that is, I download it again. Downloading hundreds of books would be like taking hundreds of books down from my shelves and scattering them all over the house. It would be messy. I only need the book I am reading to be off the shelf.

Hi, Dana, I'm wondering if you have a severe case of download fever or is it
the intoxication of the knowledge that you can accumulate a library like
your friends who may collect housefuls of books? If you answer yes to these two questions I pose, then I've been there. It's delightful knowing I won't
be running out of reading matter. Then there is the sort of frenzy bargain
hunters get into when they hear the magic word "one day sale on". The books
you want at Bookshare will still be there for your downloading and reading
pleasure. I'm wondering if sometimes we get caught up in acquiring books
because they're "free". Mind you, I'm a paid subscriber to Bookshare, but
it's nice to know there are books ready and waiting for me to download and
read them. I suppose it might be called a kind of intangible treasure hunt. Don't worry about the download limit. Just ask yourself if you need the book
right now, and if you don't, it will still be there (hopefully). Regards,
Kim Friedman (who likes hunting for treasure, especially books).

Do you feel there is any means I could request anfy more than 300 books
monthly?
I honestly know I can't read this many books but honestly with the many many
many books posted up there.
I just hate to have to keep track of what I need to yet download.
Just wondering your thoughts.
Dana
