Don't sweat the ISBN. If it isn't there, then leave it blank, unless you are sure that you are looking at the same edition as the book you are validating. It is nice to put it in the form, but not a deal breaker if it is not included. Of course, if it doesn't have one, then you don't need to do anything, anyhow.

When I am in MS Word, I do a search for karet m to find the top of the next page. That's shift-6 followed by small letter m with no space. After that, you can do a control-pagedown to find the next one, etc.

When you go to the Step Two upload page, the same information that was on the Step One download page will be there, and you can make corrections if anything there doesn't match the correct information - a typo in the title or author's name, wrong copyright date, and so on. You can also add a short and/or long synopsis there if it lacks either of those things and you want to add one.

If anything here is wrong, I'm sure someone with more experience will correct it in short order, but that's my understanding of things.

Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Newbie validating questions

Working on my first validation here.
I think I've read through all the stuff in the vol info instruction page.
I chose a book I'm fairly familiar with, thinking to ease myself into it.

Wouldn't you know I got a question...

This book has no ISBN # on the title page.
Copyright date and author fine.

I Googled around on the net and did find what I think was the same edition
at a bookseller's. Same number of pages. And it said "this copy has no
ISBN #."

So is there more I need to do? What do you do on the form?
I have not tried to do the Step 2 upload yet so I am not fully yet prepared
to know what all it will ask.

When you download the book from Step 1, should you copy into a file the info
on the page with the book before you go ahead and take it? I did not, and
I'm not sure where to see what the submitter said about it, other than what
I remember.

Also, when you are in Rich Text Format, how do you check the headers and
page numbers? It does not have a way to navigate to top of next page does
it without the formatting? PAGE DOWN just goes screen at a time, I think.
I guess I can do a search for the text of header, but I thought I'd just ask
you all.

I use JAWS for Windows if this is useful for anyone wanting to make a
suggestion.

Sorry for the tiresome newbie stuff, but I will learn, I promise. <g>

I like that HTH thing. Never heard of that. See I'm learning already.
Hope that helps. Nice.

Opening day of spring training games on MLB today! Straming Rockies hosting
2006 world champ White Sox right now!

Thanks.
Rik
