When I tried putting a book on my voice sense it stripped it of all the page
brakes and stuff.

Hi, Stacey, I have a combination approach which I fell into and seems to work
for me. I'm fortunate in that I have a Braille notetaker with a Braille display
hooked up to my computer via serial port. Basically what I do is listen to the
text using my screen reader (which is the same as yours) and following along
with my hand on the Braille display. I think of this as akin to a double-screen
flour sifter, what one misses the other gets. One thing that was passed on to
me is to make a copy of the file you've checked out and proofread your copy,
leaving the original file strictly alone. There are some little things that
were sent along to me which I use before going into a book which have to do
with formatting stuff. I don't know if you have Skype or not, but if so, I'd be
glad to converse with you so you can pick my brain or that of other list
