Two page mode, as the book fit on the scanner better that way.
You might want to clean the scanner glass and see if it makes a difference.

Or else try 400 dpi as I have done that on occassion, though it slows things 
down dramatically.

The font is a little different.

I don't know. I never read your copy. The library finally came up with the copy I had ordered for myself, 4 months back. I scanned it on a whim. Your 
copy is, I assume, as good as it ever was.  Did you use 2-page mode or
single?

Grayscale, 300 dpi, and Fine Reader 8 as part of Bookshare.

So.... I have to wonder, what happened to the book from my desk to
Bookshare, as most of what I glanced at read great.

Would whoever scanned If Democrats tell me what software and settings they used? I just took a look at this book for curiosity's sake and found it a 
horrible scan never exceeding 99.6 and much often lower.  After I went
through the book with rank spelling, I still had 455 errors.
