Please be safe with nitrogen. It is about as dangerous as water, that being
said many people die from drowning. The incident below has stuck with me,
as they used it as a safety example at my first aerospace job at Ball.
Walking past the test chamber on a daily basis was a reminder to be safe
that I have not forgotten.

breathe pure nitrogen. My guess is 5-7 times before you pass out. Anybody
knows better?
I read of people stepping down a few steps down a ladder inside a tank,
unaware it had been nitrogen purged. The treacherous thing is one breathes
quite normally in N2 but O2 is missing: sudden collapse and death is
likely, without warning or ill feeling. Such happened on several occasions
in chemical industry, even some who went down for help without an air
blanket perished.

A relative of mine works as an anaesthetist. Being doctors they get up to
far they can run down the hall before they fall over. I seem to recall them
saying something like 10-15 paces (might have been seconds, it was a while
ago).
