Textbooks:
- Anderson is always approachable ("Modern Compressible Flow" would be a
good one) but is generally light on the aeroheating.
- Bertin's "Aerodynamics for Engineers" not quite as approachable, more of
a wing focus, but addresses more of the heating issues.
For missile/rocket configs MIL-HDBK-762 is great, free and applicable.

Hey all,
I am looking for an approachable yet useful introduction to the subject.
Out of print books or web references are equally good. I would like to be
able to calculate simple cases of drag and heating.
Thanks!
