Back in the early 1950, when I was a kid, you could not buy
ingredients for Mexican food in the Washington, DC area.  My dad's
army work took him to El Paso from time to time.  He would bring back
*canned* tortillas and make enchiladas with a fried egg on top.  Yum!

Obviously OT:
For some food stuff I (regularly) travel across the border to Denmark.

( marinated fish, yoghurt, ..)

you can buy the same product in Germany but its taste is different.
ingredient composition is different too.
( DE fruit yoghurt tends to have 10..12% (added) sugars, the Danish one is ~6% while the fruit content as such is about the same.)

My XYL once bought a pack of her ( DE-home ) preferred brand of fags in the UK while on holiday.

... and threw them away. fully different ( and bad ) taste.
