Dear COST IS0802 Action colleagues,

Please find herewith information about the COST supported PhD training event on
REDD+ to be held at Wageningen University, the Netherlands, from April 10-14,
2012. [See below for all details].

We can support the participation of at least 7-8 COST PhDs in this event.

Therefore, please circulate this announcement widely within your networks, and
encourage your PhD students working on REDD+ at apply/attend!! We look forward
to an enthusiastic response from our COST network!

Application process and deadline:
As per COST rules, the names of all participants in the training school have to
be shared with the COST office at least a month before the event. Hence, the
deadline to apply for COST-funded PhD participants is 27 February, 2012.
[Please note: This is earlier than the deadline for those not being supported
through COST]

COST PhD applicants are asked to send a motivation letter (including relevance
of this training school for the candidate's research), a reference letter and
their resume. These materials can be sent by email to:
marjanneke.vijge@xxxxxx<mailto:marjanneke.vijge@xxxxxx>

Information about COST procedures regarding reimbursement of participants:

 *
Participants should be from COST countries. A general rule of the thumb is 2
participants per COST country but this is only a guideline to ensure a balanced
distribution of participants.
 * Reimbursement procedure and amounts for PhD participants: for COST
training schools, a fixed amount is paid after the end of the training school
in form of a grant. According to COST rules, we can calculate per participant:
a daily allowance of 60 to 90 Euros and 300 Euros travel costs. Thus, for a 3
day meeting costs per participant are around: 540 to 660 Euros. However,
depending upon how applications are received, and to accommodate as many
applicants as possible, a flat 500 Euro as contribution to each participant's
expenses may also be considered.

With these technicalities out of the way, see below (and related links) for
details of the PhD training course:

knowledge and understanding of REDD+ issues. The course will use an
interdisciplinary approach to address current debates and challenges inherent
in the design and implementation of REDD+.

Participants will interact with high-level experts on REDD+ with different
scientific backgrounds. The post-graduate course includes a mix of theory and
practice, and will focus on current REDD+ debates and implementation of REDD+
activities. Various topical issues will be covered from natural and social
science perspectives, including: REDD+ governance; monitoring, reporting and
verification of REDD+; co-benefits and safeguards in REDD+; REDD+ in relation
to forest management; and REDD+ finance and economics.

The post-graduate course is organised by Wageningen University and Research
Centre (WUR) and will be held in Wageningen, The Netherlands, from 10 to 13
