Of course it didn't display output on the screen. It was executed by a 
background
process called ora_s#$%!_$ORACLE_SID  which probably doesn't have your terminal
open as file descriptor 1, the one and only STDOUT. You should store the output
somewhere and then display it. One possible place to redirect output to would 
be $ORACLE_HOME/bin/oracle
