Good afternoon from Ohio,
I just discovered that I sent the following e-mail to one person instead
of the group. Here is what I meant to send about four hours ago, grin.
I just had an idea. It is so unrefined that it probably won't sound
good but here goes. What if we could create a "virtual optacon." You
would write a program that would take a scanned image and map it to a
display unit according to the position of a device like a mouse on a
grid. You would scan a document so its characteristics could be
stored. Then you would use a program to navigate with the mouse like
device and feel in the display unit. The mouse-like device would have
to provide two locations so that the position and angle on the grid
could be determined. Then a program would select a portion of the
scanned image to map to the display device. Perhaps both devices could
be connected using one USB connection but they would not communicate
directly with each other. Perhaps instead of two pointer locations, a
line of locations could be passed using a light in the mouse device and
a long and narrow lens area to activate photo-electric cells along a
line in a grid that would be translated into a location and angle in the
scanned image by a program.
Perhaps a variation on a touch pad, large enough to represent a document
and maybe using a tip of a finger, not the end but the portion that has
your finger print, I think some might refer to this as the pad of your
finger could be used instead of a pointing device.
Sorry this is so rough and not well written. This just landed on me and
I wrote it so take it for what it's worth.
