Carolyn:
It's off topic, but I have some experience migrating off Outlook
Express. I successfully completed a migration off XP Pro/office 2003
and Outlook Express in March 2014, a month ahead of when Microsoft ended
support to those products.

I've been on Mozilla Thunderbird for e-mail since then with good
results. I suggest you look into it. The best feature: It is free.
The second best: Its storage capability depends solely on your machine;
and it sits in what ever machine you use. Thus, I have three laptops
and a mini desktop all running Thunderbird. All have performed well.

Thanks!
Maureen

Thanks. I do intend to keep this machine, until I can import a lot of my
stuff. I feel sure that all of my word documents will go all right. I am
hoping that I can transfer my address from Outlook Express to, probably
Windows Live Mail. As much as my husband knows about computers, he agrees
that I need to call our very reliable professional here in town.

Thanks again.

Carolyn, most of the keyboard commands (standard or frequent commands)
will
be the same in Windows 10. If you wait a bit, there will be references
will
be written from National Braille Press. The main changes are in the
design
of the user interface. If you can, keep your XP on one machine, and then
install Windows 10 on a separate system. Basically just hunt around in
the
ribbon interface. That will be a lot different from Windows 10. Some
where,
in PC World, there was an article detailing the changes from Windows 7
or
Windows 8. See if you can get a copy of PC World from the last three
months
to borrow or keep. You should look at the changes in JAWS for version 15
and
16. Sign up for the JAWS user list to get tips from users who are using
the
recent versions of JAWS and Windows 10. They will have some useful
information a month or two after Windows 10 is released.Perhaps you
might
find a copy of Windows 7 to get familiarity with the ribbon set up.
Besides
your husband could could get the initial installation such that he can
have
to fight some of the beginning setups.

Whatever you choose, just dive in and spend time just poking around;
that's
what I do.

Good luck! I know you can do it.

I hope that the update will be simple. If I can at all, I will follow my
husband's advice and stick with XP until I can get full-fledged Windows
10 -
learn fewer new keyboard commands that way.

As I understand it, when 10 comes out, 7 and up will be offered a
download.
Surely, and if it will be like in earlier versions, you have to
reinstall
everything on your system just to get it work again. In the iOS it
isn't
that way; you can just download the new iOS version, and that's it.

Of course I do hope that MS has finally learned that the OS can also be
updated to a new version without reinstallation of everything required,
but I doubt. If so, it's revolutionary!
