For simple mail, the scanner is much faster. I like the feeling of
reading with an optacon, but when time is of the essence, I use my
scanning system. I tend to use the optacon to identify mail, and
sometimes read some of it to keep my finger sensitive. But the scanner
does enable me to read much longer texts in a timely manner. Sometimes
the scanner will miss a word, and then, from knowing the context, I can
usually find it on the page with the optacon and decipher it.
