Hello Emin and others on the list,
This is Richard Oehm from Oehm Electronics. Noel Runyan is a brilliant
man and a very kind and helpful gentleman. Usually, when he posts
something to this list his posting is spot on and completely accurate.
However, the AC power adapter
(available from Minute-Man Electronics) that Noel recommends for use as
a battery charger with R1 series Optacons will never fully charge an R1
series Optacon battery. This AC adapter is an excellent voltage
regulated and surge protecting +5 volt power supply source. This
adapter will do an excellent job powering any R1 series Optacon when
the Optacon's internal rechargeable battery has been removed from The
Optacon. Unfortunately, it can never fully recharge an R1 series
Optacon battery. The best way to recharge an R1 series Optacon battery
is to obtain and use an original Telesensory R1 series Optacon battery
charger. The Telesensory Optacon battery charger is designed to
monitor the charge status of an R1 series Optacon battery and regulate
the charge current and charge voltage so that the Optacon battery is
thoroughly recharged without becoming overcharged. This battery
charger is designed to maximize R1 series Optacon battery life and
battery performance. In my inventory at Oehm Electronics I currently
have three Telesensory battery chargers designed to operate from 120VAC
power maines which is the standard used in the U.S. Canada and many
other countries located in North and Central America. I can also
provide a Telesensory battery charger designed to operate from 220VAC
power sources which is the standard in Europe and many other countries.
If you want to acquire a Telesensory battery charger from Oehm
Electronics that can operate from 220VAC power sources, It will take me
a few weeks to fill this order for you because I'll need to obtain the
necessary components to create the 220VAC battery charger. If you'd
like to obtain an R1 series Optacon battery charger designed for 220VAC
operation more quickly, you might want to check with the other two
highly reputable Optacon repair folks on this list (Pentronics located
in Australia or David Godfrey located in the UK.). I believe that you
will not have to dig too deep into the list archives to find relevant
contact information about these other highly reputable Optacon
repairers. At Oehm Electronics, we sell the Telesensory Optacon
battery charger (designed for use with 110VAC operation or 220VAC
operation) for $65.00 U.S. currency. This price doesn't include sales
tax or shipping charges. I hope you find this information helpful.
Very Best Regards,
Richard Oehm
