I had the experience where I was working on production.
Could I take the dictionary, drug book, patient list,
whatever out into the hall, come back and transcribe. I said
I could not. I was moved to another office, but within a
week, the women who complained were gone anyway. I worked
there for two years in the office where I was moved without
problem. If you are a medical transcriptionist and focus on
dictation, people talking, radio, whatever, is no intrusion,
because you have both ears covered and attention on what is
being said in the headset, not what is going on around you.
So, one day, when I was working there busily transcribing up
a storm my very nice boss at that time quite gently lay a
hand on my shoulder, so as not to startle me and said,
"Carolyn, you need to shut down and come out into the hall.
We're having a Texas tornado." And,, with Word Perfect, I
immediately pressed F7 Y Y, I heard stuff crashing on the
windows of the office and went out into the hall. No real
problem, just a little time lost, and we were fortunate that
it was a small tornado.

Thanks for the tips!
I consider myself an "Optacon Acrobat", because I really do
all sorts of things with it... It's fun, besides being
useful. The child part in me loves experimenting, and since
I'm a very strong reader, the fact of going out to the
newsstand or bookshop or library and just grab anything and
read it right away is quite an advantage!
I was hoping Charles would come up with his new Optacon,
because I think I understood that the actuators were more
silent than the current ones, which would have opened up the
doors of libraries here...
The noise that the Optacon makes has always been a problem
for accessing libraries. I can go and get books to take
home, but they wouldn't let me consult books right there...
sigh!
Has anyone had diffeent experiences in public libraries?
