Thanks for all your input. I've backed all my fonts up (I feel so virtuous!) to a DVD and will work up the nerve to hit install. I should probably wait until I get an external backup installed, even though that task will lead to yet another batch of questions and decisions. I've never used Time Machine! Blasted domino effect...

1) Back them *all* up before you make any changes. Even just having a folder somewhere on your HD with a backup of all of your fonts is better than nothing, and you can compress the folder as well.Andy
