I have done the same, fsck -fy, disk utility however rebooting only
'fixes' it for awhile. I can leave a disc in the cd drive and it
appears on the desktop but when I go to access it it disappears and I
have to reboot in order to get it back - needless to say this is a bit
of a pain. In the past I could leave a disc in all day and could
always access it so I'm not sure what is going on. Again I suspect a
driver or preference file or something.
