[muglo] Disc Errors

Hi All,
Setting up a new iMac for a family.
After updating all the software, ran the 'OnyX' and at the starting of
the program it verifies the hard drive.
The dialogue box said that it could not be verified and that there
were disc errors.
So, I ran the Disc Utility program and it reported the same errors.
I loaded in the software boot DVD's and ran Disc Utility from there,
same errors.
Did not install anything else.
My question is - how do I go about repairing the the disc? Or, just do
a fresh reinstall of Tiger?
I have done it OS9 a few times - are the steps same in OSX?
