Fantastic photos, Kassie! I'm glad you saw this. I've only seen these
variations in photos.

Hello, hope everyone survived the storms last night. I lived through 'Harvey"
down in League City (aka south of Houston). So I've seen what 50 inches of
rain can do and the storm that continued for 3 plus days. So the last couple
of storms here rival the wind that Hurricane Harvey brought us! Geez it is a
bit frightening for sure. Anyway on a good note before the storm we saw this
at our feeder. Was pale yellow through my binocular however the pictures show
a slight red in some of the feathers. I have never seen one and I concluded it
is a House Finch Variation...according to my Nat Geo Field guide. Your
thoughts?? Have you all seen one?

Greetings all:
The kind of rainfall we are getting now can make for an interesting
day along riparian corridors on the following morning. Probably not
so much in the way of migrant songbirds (though one never knows - some
stuff might have gotten started from the south before this blew up and
might get grounded at local hotspots) but amphibians, reptiles, and
mammals can get displaced and become much more visible. The day after
heavy storms has, in past years, provided me with good views of Plains
and Yellow-faced Pocket Gophers, for instance.
