Imagine my surprise when a flock of about a dozen doves burst up off the
ground, and I realized they were all Inca Doves. This occurred at the house on
the SE corner of 21st and Gary. It's an abandoned house, and I guess the yard
is pretty "seedy." I was on my bike, it happened too fast to get an exact
count, but there was easily a dozen of them. They flew into the adjacent
trees, and are probably still hanging around. I haven't seen that many in the
neighborhood since the '90s.
Also a Hermit Thrush on October 9 in the yard. And sixteen Sandhill Cranes
west of town (where the pavement ends on 50th Street) circling in a thermal.
Yours,
Bill Wenthe
