Hi All,
Brad Shine and I spent most of this evening looking for the Mourning Warbler
that Jim Crites found earlier today. We were not able to refind it, but it was
a pleasant evening nonetheless. After Brad left, I went back into the canyon
behind the chapel and while I was recording a Cardinal, something caught my eye
just to the right. It turned out to be a Gray Fox! I watched as it quickly
skittled down the canyon wall right next to me, without making sound and
quickly disappeared! Both Great Horned Owls were present later in the evening
as well as a singing Canyon Wren. As I was turning to leave, something broke
out in a fight just down the trail. Growling, thrashing, whimpering, and a
splash followed while I regained my nerve to start down the trail again to
leave! I didn’t want any part of that! I never did see the culprits, but I
imagine it was raccoons or the fox finding prey. It turned out to be a very
memorable evening! The full list is below.
