Hi All,
There are 3 female scaup at McAlister and one or two looks like they may be
Greater. One has a consistently rounded head, lots of white around the bill,
and when it looked at me I felt like it had the wide triangle shape. The other
has a more rounded head but a small peak emerged a couple of times. Not certain
about the width of the head. I’m fairly confident in calling the 3rd a Lesser.
It always had a peak, very little white around the bill, and the head appeared
thin when it looked my way. All three look the same size and like they have the
same size head though. If anyone else is interested or cares to confirm, they
were on the N side but worked their way to the S side with the Ring-necked
Ducks. They are moving around a lot and have mainly preened and swam, but done
some diving. I’m not 100% confident in calling any a Greater based on the looks
I have gotten, but I think at least one has potential.
