Trying to make the last of a little sun and decent temperatures this afternoon,
I visited a couple of playas. I started at Charles A. Guy Park and was
surprised to find only 3 Pied-billed Grebes and 12 Coots. Not even a Mallard in
sight. I went on to 103 & Slide and found a very nice diversity of ducks, the
highlight for me being at least 20 Redheads. The full list is below and I am
sure I missed a few species. Most were backlit and distant. On my way back to
Quaker I spotted a kettle of Turkey Vultures over 98th that quickly turned into
3 separate kettles of at least 150 birds. I’m really glad I pulled over to
watch them, it was quite a sight!

20 Redhead -- Mostly males
8 Ring-necked Duck -- Males and females
3 Lesser Scaup -- 1 male, 2 females. Probably a few more.

so backlit, I’m lucky to have ID’d any.

16 Killdeer
2 Lesser Yellowlegs
2 Greater/Lesser Yellowlegs -- Sleeping
