Drew,
I’m the one who reported it yesterday. I saw it at 11:15 am on the south side
of the southern playa between the runoff area and the row of short trees
(33.553936,-101.865472). It flushed and flew to the north. At the time it was
very near the edge of the playa.

Subject: [leasbirds] Looking for: American Bittern @ Clapp Park
Has anyone gone to try and relocate the American Bittern reported at Clapp Park
yesterday afternoon?
I went briefly this morning between the rains and was not able to locate it.
If anyone else has seen it on this listserve please report the date and time as
well as the best description of its location where it was seen. It flushed try
and give the approximate location of where it landed if possible.
There are probably a few of us that would like to see an American Bittern in
the region.
With the cold front that just passed it either took off infornt of the cold
front or it hunkered down. If it hunkered down to wait out the weather there is
a fair chance it could still be in Clapp Park. ....tucked deep into the
cattails.
I will be making another pass around the playa to try and find it later this
afternoon.
