This afternoon at the Becton playa:
Five birds I couldn’t ID. Small, sparrow sized, plump looking. Light brown and
nondescript plumage above, white fronts with buffy chests, white eyebrow and
thin white line around the throat, bills looked pinkish and substantial, legs
appeared gray. Black tails with white edging from above and below (just like a
Western Kingbird). Stayed to the edge of the playa, lots of running and
flitting. Occasionally hunkering down and standing tall. Skittish. Behavior
reminded me of pipits.
I’ve looked through Sibley and I am drawing a complete blank. They were on the
far side of the playa and it was windy, so even with the scope details were
difficult to pick out.
Thanks for any help! It’s driving me nuts!
