Hi All,
I think Jim Crites means my eBird rare bird alert, but I did mean to send
my list out to the listserv. I went back today to confirm that it was
indeed a Horned Grebe in better light and weather, and I still believe that
it is. When I got there, Brad Shine was already looking for it and we spent
a pleasant evening scoping out all of the waterfowl. I have to give credit
to Jim Kringle for this find. He took the car to Walmart to get the tires
rotated and noticed grebes that were not Pied-billed. He pushed me out into
the rain yesterday to take a look at them and low and behold, there they
were. Here is the full list from today. Its pretty much the same as
yesterday but with more species of ducks since they were much easier to see
today.

White neck and cheek (no gray on face) with white going up towards the back
of the crown. Peaked white pattern on back of head. White chest. Bill is
light colored close to the head then dark with a white tip.

Last week I heard a Ferruginous Pygmy-owl just outside of Raymondville
(near the lower Rio Grande Valley). That made my 425th Texas bird for the
year, which was my Texas Big Year Goal. The Horned Grebe was number 433.
I am not stopping, but I feel some of the pressure is now off.
