I don't know of a unit that I would rather have. I
just love it. I don't always recalibrate mine after replacing the
batteries, but it is factory recommended. If I notice that it is not
acting right, then I will recalibrate. It only takes a few seconds
while I stand in one place. Is it perfect? No. I have had some
problems, but the factory really stands behind their product. If you
don't get a 60, what would you buy? Surely you are not thinking of a
Magellan. I know of several cachers that would love to trade their
Magellans in for a Garmin. I have never met a Garmin user that would
trade for a Magellan. Just my opinion. Bernie.

I'm getting close to raising enough
money to purchase one but now i'm wondering if I should reconsider.
Having to recal before every cache seems a bit extreme.
Are there any other quirks I should
know about?
I'd like to hear what those of you
who use it think of it overall. What are the pluses and minuses in your
opinions?
Thanks & God bless!

We use a 60CS as well, and the recalibration routine is now so ingrained
that we recalbefore every cache. No kidding - every one of them! We call
it "doing the geodance" because of the odd movements required (you 60
owners will identify I'm sure!).
Calibrating your electronic compass is good however should only be
needed when you change batteries in your gps. Also the dance movement
is not needed.... stand still and just turn the gps around in your
hands 2 times :-)
Well, that is the theory I know, but in practice, it just gets out of
whack some times even when you don't change the batteries. And this is
not the only time I have heard this. I saw it pop up on the 60CS forum
as well, and I think I recall a few people saying they experienced the
problem, but there was by no means a deafening chorus joining in. So I
suspect it is not a universal problem, but only for a chosen few.
For what I paid for the thing, I keep a good grip on it and don't start
twirling it in my hands O:-) I
actually did try it both ways, but when I spin, I calibrate my own
internal compass too. That is required because sometimes I forget to
create a waypoint for where I parked.
