It's all line of sight. Over water they will reach 5 miles, but other than that, FORGET it. :-)

I believe that the mileage ratings on all these are over rated. Units are advertised with ranges from 3,5,7 and now 10 mile ranges.

We have the Motorola T5950's (the yellow ones). They are good solid units with all the bells and whistles but they do not get anywhere near the advertised range of 5 or 7 miles. .25 to .5 mile they are great. At a mile things are not so great and if there is a hill in the way communications are over. Even at close distances, communications have are a little static mixed in.

I would like to find some truly longer range reliable communications equipment. I have a set of Motorola HT750's sitting here and they are beautiful. Absolutely crystal clear communications for 3 miles easy. BUT they are mega expensive , the batteries are dead, I dont have the charger and they are not mine. Boo hiss. I would really like to find a whole fleet of these but then, no one else would be able to talk to us since they are rather non standard and no one has them.

Doesn't mention anything about licensing :-/

Good description of the unit and accessories, though.
