K-Team and I just got back from a 289 cache caching trip to LA and AR
highpoints.

Many of the micros down there were in contact lens containers. I've never
seen them used like that before. They were real easy to screw open and
closed. We probably found 100 of them and the log in everyone of them was
completely dry without any plastic bag protecting them. Sometimes the log
was a little hard to get out. But it was always easier than dealing with
the ziplock bag in a film canister. They just glued a magnet to the inside
of the container. Anyone know where to get these containers? I would
encourage people to use them.

I was given some Bic Re-Action Gel pens for Christmas. I tried one on our
trip. It was the best caching pen/pencil I have ever used. It was real
easy to write with and shows up good. It also worked well on a damp log.
But there were still some logs that were too wet to write on. It also
worked well on nano logs and in the cold.

On Sunday we set our new record for caches in a day: 160. After our 143
record got topped by other SLAGA friends, we had planned to beat them-but
beating them was not part of the plan for this trip. I just choose the best
route between two points. Saturday night I counted the caches along the
route and told K-Team we could top their record if all went well. We
started the day hunting shortly before sunrise and started with 3 DNFs.
Then we lost over 1 hour of daylight caching dealing with K-Team losing his
prescription - had to go into Hot Springs to get it replaced. We also spent
half an hour trying to find one that we never found. It took us 11 hours
and 44 minutes. After we finished we were in Mount Magazine State Park. We
camped about 200 feet lower than AR's high point. It turned out to be the
coldest place in the state. It got down to 25.1. And talk about wind! I
do not think I have ever camped in that much wind. It really made setting
up a tent hard!

AR is a really nice place to cache. We also got to visit a maze exhibit-not
impressed but its another cache type.
