Here is what I put under events...

Hosting Geocaching events that attract many visitors from many states is something that should be considered under Special Events. The insurance policy has kept the Midwest Open Geocaching Adventure out of state parks and has been a significant revenue generator for the US Army corps of Engineers. The event draws more than 500 people over a weekend to camp and participate in one on the worlds largest geocaching events.

The popularity of the sport has grown tremendously over the past few years. Even the competition has seen significant growth since the first event at Hawn in 2004. At Hawn, we used another club to have the event. We have grown too large to include our event in the Orienteering event so we have branched off and continue to grow. In 2005 we had the event at Meramec State Park and had to get insurance. That policy cost us over 1400.00 dollars for the weekend and it was barely enough to cover the requirements.

Since that time, we have gone to Illinois State Parks and Army Corp of Engineer properties. Waivers are fine for their use. This allows us to put on a top rate program.

Last year we filled 2 1/2 hotels and over 90 campsites at Mark Twain Lake. We will return there this year in what appears to be the largest Competitive Geocaching Event in the world.

It would be nice to see the State Parks sponsor this event so there are no insurance requirements. You would have many volunteers to help put the event together and it would be nice to showcase State Parks. Please consider this.

Missouri State parks is asking for input from the public on ideas for programs at the park. Now would be a good time to voice your opinion about Geocaching rules and limits. Let them know you support Geocaching in the parks.

I think that we would fall under Visioning Ideas ==> IV. Programs and Events Expansion. You can comment on this section or on the overall Visioning. They have some great ideas.

The astronomy club is asking for at least 2 dark sky preserves and longer night hours. This would be great for night caches.

Please act today so we can let them know Geocaching is a valuable part of state parks.

Glenn N., Can you cross post this on MOGEO forums?

Thanks!
