Really, I'm sorry to say that responses like the below are not helpful. I'm not
a complete idiot. It actually did occur to me to read the manual, in which I
did not find the answer I was looking for, hence writing to a list which,
correct me if I'm mistaken, is meant to be a place you can ask questions about
using BrailleNotes.

the monitor to the VGA port and then there must be a command to turn it
