The only thing I've ever done--and been asked to do
for people--is to translate them into text. With Word
I can go to the Table file and Convert text to table
or table to text, but all that does is remove the
lines and the text is space oddly and jumbled.

In some files I've validated, if the table merely
illustrates the text I simply put in brackets the word
table and then the caption or heading. If the table
adds to the text then I translate it into a paragraph
or list. Not fun, as you have supposed, when there are
as many as you have.
