This deal where you get errors that indicate too dark and too light may be a
candidate for dynamic threshhold and/or possibly gray scale. I recently
submitted a book that had a few errors like that, die for the a couple
times, which indicates I needed to raise the brightness, but also tlie for the
a couple times, on different pages from the other error, indicating the
brightness was a tad too high. Over all, the scan was excellent, and I
fixed those few errors when ranked spelling. but if you get a lot of errors
like that, some of which indicate too dark, and some of which indicate too
light, its probably time to try something other than a static setting.
