I gather this is different from the Elephant and Piggy book with that
title by Mo Willems. My youngest grandchildren ( ages 5& 6, boy & girl
respectively, love those books and they now have, I'm pretty sure, all of
the available ones. They can read them by themselves, and they have
wonderful "lessons" hidden in the excellent plots, i.. stories. Other
recent favorites are the Yeti files series, The haunted Library series and
the Buddy Files. And last week I found an English series with rave reviews
from parents & professional reviewers like School Library Journal that's
adapted from a British TV series ; The series is Charlie & Lola; titles (I
don't think they have to be read in order are I Am Going To save a Panda, I
Want to actually Keep It, I Can Do Anything, Everything on my own
(actually, Lola discovers when on a seesaw that she can't -- it won't see
or saw unless there's someone Else on the other end*, and Help! I Really
Mean It ( based on the story of of The Girl Who Cried Wolf*

whose name begins with J discussing books for middle-school kids,
especially ( but nor exclusively girls. I hav a 10-year-old grandaughter
who devours books and grandsons, ages 7&8, one of whom is not a good
reader. The granddaughter loves the Goddess Girls, Cupcake Diaries and
now Emily Windsnap series;*
* the boys liked The Hardy Boys Secret Files series ( Hardy Boys for
younger kids); and the nonreader 8-year old has read and enjoyed and wants
more of the Trials of Apollo (Thanks for that suggestion, Julia) and the
Heroes in Training series I based on the Greek myths, also the Magnus
Chase and gods of Asgard series (based on Norse M ytology*
