This is just a passing comment and is off-topic, so it is not intended to start a discussion, but the subject of Michael Parenti does cause me to reflect a bit. Michael Parenti is also a long-time contributor to Political Affairs. That is the theoretical journal of the Communist Party, USA. He claims to not be a CP member. Okay, I suppose the CP can allow non-party members to contribute to their magazine if they want to. However, it would be a bit difficult for someone to be published there if he is not at least a sympathizer, but I have never known Parenti to admit to that. I have not read him for some time, so I could be missing something, but if he has not said something definitive since I last did read him Parenti is missing something too.

Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Nonfiction submission

Hi all,

I've just submitted for proofing "Contrary Notions: The Michael Parenti
Reader" by Michael Parenti.

It's been read through w/errors corrected. Headers stripped; page numbers
and section titles present/protected; text formatted. 404 pages.

Description:
Prominent leftist public intellectual Parenti has built a reputation for
himself as a trenchant, yet engaging and accessible, critic of capitalism,
imperialism, and other forms of exploitation and violence and this diverse
collection of his writings will not disappoint his fans (nor, probably,
convince his detractors). Over the course of the collection he takes on the
corporate media, intellectual repression in academia, the stolen
presidential elections of 2000 and 2004 (not that he's a fan of Al Gore or
John Kerry), right wing judicial activism, free-market orthodoxies and
mythologies, racism, sexism, homophobia, postmodern attacks on Marxism, the
distortions of dominant history, ill-informed demonizations of the
Venezuelan political process, his own life, and many other topics.
