Debby and everyone,

How timely this thread on image description in children's books is.

I encourage everyone to read through the note from Jim Fruchterman and Betsy
Beaumon that Nicole Gnutzman has just posted. It reaffirms how central the
Bookshare volunteer community is to the identity of Bookshare and, I hope,
gives you confidence that quality work like image descriptions is not
permanently lost as we work through the practical implications of the PQ influx.

In fact, I read the note as an invitation to the volunteer community to
continue down the path we have been following by adding value with image
descriptions, as Series Captains, seeking out little publicized books or
presses, tackling multi-lingual books - or as our "Bookshare Betty Crockers"
have done - cookbooks. Any brave souls considering picking up the textbook
gauntlet?

Let's take Jim and Betsy's note as a call to generate some new ideas and I will
follow up at my end to help you operationalize them.

Hi Chela, Jamie and everyone!

I downloaded and read "No, David" last night. I'm a sucker for kids books
with those lovely picture descriptions. All of the picture descriptions
were there. If not, the book would have been trashed, since the text would
be nothing without the picture descriptions.
