[bksvol-discuss] At least I didn't get very far.

I am glad that Bookshare has over a half million books now, but it is getting a bit hard to find something to scan. I have a paperback book here with the title The Mind Master by James Gunn. I did a thorough search of the Bookshare collection to make sure that it was not already there. That was after I had searched for a number of other books and did find that Bookshare already had them. Several results came up for the title The Mind Master, but none by James Gunn. Just to be sure I searched for the author James Gunn alone and found a number of books by him, but none with the title The Mind Master. So a few minutes ago I started scanning it. On the title page below the title there was a note that the book had been originally published in hardcover under the title The Dreamers. I thought I had better check on that and, indeed, Bookshare does have a publisher quality copy of The Dreamers. At least I didn't get very far before I had to abort. I wish I had known, though, before I had acquired the book. I am now getting books to scan from PaperbackSwap.com because it is the cheapest source I have with limited mobility, but it is not a completely free source. Alas, I now start searching for another book to scan. I think publishers give different titles to different editions of the same book so that they can sell more books. I am sure that readers of print books feel frustration too when they buy what appears to be a new book by their favorite author only to find that they have already read it and they were fooled by a different title.
