75 years ago today, on 3 Oct. 1942, a man-made object reached space for
the first time, with the first fully successful A4 (aka V-2) test launch.
The Subject-line quote was Walter Dornberger's reaction.
It was also the first self-propelled vehicle to reach Mach 2, Mach 3, Mach
4, and Mach 5. (Its immediate predecessor, six weeks earlier, was the
first self-propelled vehicle definitely known to have exceeded Mach 1 --
although some of Peenemuende's A5 subscale test vehicles, and one or two
of Goddard's rockets, *might* have done so before that.)
